Although plans for North Shattuck Plaza began several years ago, North Shattuck Plaza, Inc. was formed in January 2006 to plan and finance "a pedestrian plaza adjacent to the businesses on Shattuck Ave. between Vine and Rose Streets." You can get more information on this project at the North Shattuck Plaza, Inc. website.
Neighbors have various opinions, some supporting the project, some believing "it ain't broke, so don't fix it," and others suggesting alternative plans. Here are links to diagrams:

At a public meeting on Oct 26, 2006, many questions were asked and board members of the North Shattuck Plaza, Inc. prepared written answers to the questions, now posted on the North Shattuck Plaza, Inc. website.
On the weekends of Nov25 and Dec 2, neighbors did a "site walk" where the proposed plaza is supposed to be. Fred Dodsworth created notes from the discussions that happened there.
